Design Miami concludes successful 2024 edition of flagship Miami Beach fair
Miami, December 10, 2024. – Sunday, December 8, saw the conclusion of Design Miami 2024, which returned to its flagship location in Pride Park over December 4-8, 2024, with Preview Day on December 3, 2024. Under curatorial director Glenn Adamson’s chosen theme, Blue Sky, the fair brought together over 45 world-leading collectible design exhibitors across its Gallery and Curio program, alongside a host of Partner presentations and Special Projects, and a rich Design Talks program. Exhibitors recorded strong sales across its historic and contemporary programming, and the fair welcomed a host of notable attendees throughout the week.
Speaking on the success of this edition, Jen Roberts (CEO, Design Miami), says: “This year’s Blue Sky theme caught the imagination of exhibitors to such an extent that we introduced a new Thematic Expression Award, won by Miami based Mindy Solomon. From our contemporary and historic gallery exhibitors, to our presenting partners and Design Talks panelists, our global design community came together to celebrate a Blue Sky thinking approach to design this edition – celebrating the boldest and most visionary creative leaps from past to present, and into the future, as we look ahead to our 20th anniversary next year”.

R & Company (New York), whose José Zanine Caldas Dining Table (c.1970) won Best Historic Work, reported a particularly successful week. Gallery Principal, Zesty Meyers, commented: "Design Miami 2024 has been an incredible experience for us. We reconnected with some of our most valued collectors, met new clients, made meaningful sales, and are actively working on additional deals”.
In addition to its gallery booth, R & Company also co-presented The Strawberry Tree by The Haas Brothers as a Special Project with Marianne Boesky Gallery. Speaking about the success of this presentation, Zesty Meyers noted: “The response to bringing the Haas Brothers back to the gallery has been phenomenal, with their work resonating deeply with both new and longtime fans. The Strawberry Tree installation was a standout, sparking conversations and capturing imaginations. We’re thrilled with the energy and enthusiasm surrounding our presentation this year."
Friedman Benda (New York/LA), the recipient of the Best Gallery Award, also reported on particularly strong sales, following successful presentations in all four Design Miami fairs hosted this year, across Los Angeles, Basel, Paris and Miami. Marc Benda (co-owner, Friedman Benda) commented: “It’s been a very good fair for us. We sold across the program”, noting that standout sales came from Javier Senosiain, Fernando Laposse and Carmen D’Apollonio.
Meanwhile, Blunk Space (California), the fair’s award-winning Best Curio, reported a series of notable sales, including a JB Blunk cypress chair (1973-74) which fetched $185,000, alongside further sales of works by contemporary designers inspired by the historic designer: Alana Burns, Rio Kobayashi and Adam Pogue.
Newcomer to the Curio program, NUOVA, presented the U.S. debut of Time Travel, 1971 , following its successful premiere at Milan Design Week 2024—offering an immersive environment that transported visitors into a quintessential 1971 American living room. Founders Rodrigo Caula and Enrico Pietra commented on the reaction from viewers: "We are thrilled with the success of our American debut at Design Miami 2024. The overwhelming response to Time Travel, 1971 has been truly rewarding, as visitors fully immersed themselves in the sensory journey we created. Seeing people emotionally connect with the art installation—from the design, craftsmanship, experience, and special giveaways—has been a highlight for us. This multi-sensorial experience reinforces our belief in the power of luxury craftsmanship as a medium for sparking dialogue and creating meaningful connections. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to share NUOVA’s vision on the global stage".
Further highlight sales came from debut Curio exhibitor, Roham Shamekh (UAE), who sold his full set of chairs in a collection titled Pharrell’s Echoes, after the musician. Donzella Ltd (New York) noted the sale of a spectacular Eben Haskell desk on Preview Day morning, while Diletante (São Paulo) highlighted a notable Tenreiro bench for $55,000. Moderne Gallery (Philadelphia) highlighted particular interest in studio ceramics and furniture pieces. Meanwhile, winner of the fair’s newly introduced Thematic Expression Award, local Mindy Solomon Gallery (Miami), has confirmed conversations with the Brooklyn Museum to acquire an untitled piece of contemporary work, highlighting the museum quality of the pieces exhibited at this year’s fair.
