October 16, 2024, Paris - The second edition of Design Miami.Paris is now open, welcoming 30 international exhibitor presentations, showcasing an array of rare and unique displays of the best historic and contemporary collectible design. Running October 16-20, 2024 (with preview day on October 15), this year's fair returns to L'hôtel de Maisons, the 18th century mansion in the cultural district of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.

Preview day on 15 October marked a successful start to the week, with sales being made upon opening, including the sale of Galerie Downtown-LAFFANOUR (Paris)'s full-scale Jean Prouvé post-war prefabricated house (1946) for over one million euros, as well as highlights from Salon 94 Design (New York), including fashion designer Rick Owens' pair of Tomb Chairs situated in the gardens, and a series of rare pieces by Gaetano Pesce, including his Palladio Cabinet (Milk colored protype) (2007) and Flower Origami Table (2023).

Making its Paris debut, Galerie Gastou (Paris), alongside return exhibitor Galerie Desprez-Bréhéret (Paris), present a collection of notable works by Jean Touret. Each piece dates back to the significant chapter of his career, where he established the Ateliers of Moralles. Touret's minimalist creations, utilizing wood and iron to conceive function designs, are presented in dialogue with contemporary pieces by Agnès Debizet. The showcase was awarded Best Gallery Presentation by Design Miami.Paris 2024.

Galerie Mitterrand (Paris) presents Mobilier de salle à manger by François-Xavier Lalanne. Awarded this year's Best Historical Design Object, the unique set of dining room furniture comprises an oval table and a suite of six chairs. The remarkable dining table was made in Lalanne's studio in Ulry, with a thick Carrara marble top resting on a construction of steel rings. The chairs are similarly structured, with thin curved steel slats holding shaped metal plates for the seat and back.

Marc Newson's Pod of Drawers, presented by Carpenters Workshop Gallery (London / New York / Paris / Los Angeles), was awarded Best Contemporary Design Object. During the design process, Newson was inspired by the 18th century style of French cabinetmaker, André Groult. Newson's contemporary design utilizes a technique of placing hand-beaten and cut aluminum pieces over a fluid fibreglass form. The sophisticated positioning of the riveted aluminum, arranged into a fluid and curvaceous silhouette, results in a playful design which is central to the work's enduring charm.

Awarded Best Design at Large Presentation, Galerie Downtown-LAFFANOUR (Paris) presents a Jean Prouvé post-war prefabricated house, originally built in 1946 in Carnac, Prouvé's home village. The house was designed with easy assembly and dismantle in mind, and is furnished at Design Miami.Paris with works by Charlotte Perriand. Standing as the only remaining building with Prouve's signature character intact, the house creates a striking juxtaposition against backdrop of the ornate L'hôtel de Maisons.

Louis Vuitton exhibits at Design Miami.Paris for the first time to present works by the Campana Brothers. Two iconic contemporary pieces, the Bulbo chair and Merengue ottoman, both defined by monochrome blue, bold forms, are presented in striking contrast to the ornate rooms of L’hôtel de Maisons. This presentation on site at the fair coincides with Louis Vuitton’s newly unveiled exhibition in Paris, LV Dream. In celebration of Design Miami.Paris 2024 and the Maison’s long-standing collaboration with Estúdio Campana, the exhibition invites visitors to discover some of the most iconic pieces from Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades collection.

Design Miami.Paris will host two dynamic talks on Thursday, October 17, both held within Prouvé's award-winning Carnac demountable house. The first, Karl Lagerfeld: A Lifelong Passion for Design, will welcome William Middleton (journalist and author of Paradise Now: The Extraordinary Life of Karl Lagerfeld), Laurence Delamare (head of 7L and CHANEL's Fashion Editorial Narration) and Clémence Krzentowski (co-founder, Galerie kreo) for an engaging discussion that will explore the storied life of Lagerfeld. Followed by Catherine Prouvé (daughter of Jean Prouvé), who will join Francois Laffanour (founder, Galerie Downtown-LAFFANOUR) for the second talk, Summer 1946 in Carnac: A Jean Prouvé House For His Own Family.

Upcoming Fair.

This December, Design Miami. will return to its established location at Pride Park for the milestone 20th edition of its Miami flagship fair. Taking place between December 4-8, 2024, with Preview Day on December 3, the fair will welcome an international array of gallery and Curio exhibitions, presented alongside a rich program of partnerships, collaborations, and design talks. Under the special edition's curatorial director Glenn Adamson’s chosen theme, Blue Sky, world-leading galleries will present contemporary and historic highlights that demonstrate the power of a ‘blue sky thinking’ approach to design - past, present, and future.
